
Prattsburgh, New York is located on Rt.53 in the northern part of Steuben
County. Narcissa Prentiss Whitman,born in Prattsburgh, March 14,1808, is Prattsburghs most
famous person. You can visit the Narcissa Prentiss House during the summer. Captain Joel
Pratt, the pioneer proprietor of the town, married Mary Beach Fowler, and in the year of
1799, visited this area on horseback. The first family to settle in Prattsburgh was Jared
Pratt from Spencertown, Columbia County, and his young bride, who came here on an ox sled
with a load of household goods in 1801.
