The Town of Dansville was one of the original six towns when Steuben County was formed in 1776. It was named Dansville in honor of "Captain Dan," Daniel P. Faulkner. Dansville is located in the northwest corner of Steuben County. The hamlets of Beachville, Rogersville and South Dansville are located within the township of Dansville. Stony Brook State Park is also located in Dansville, where you can enjoy picnics, swimming, hikeing, and tennis. A great place to just get a way and enjoy the beautiful views of Stony Brook Glen.

The Village of Dansville is located in Livingston County.
